Yaakov ben Rabbeinu Asher
The birthplace and date of Rabbi Yaakov ben Rabbeinu Asher are not certain, but he was probably born in Cologne around 1269. It is believed he passed away around 1343 in Castille. Also known as the Baal HaTurim, as well as Yaakov ben Raash, he was the author of the Arba Turim, a four section work focused on Halacha. He often quotes his father in his works, as well as his brothers Yechiel and Yehuda, and his uncle, Chaim. He wrote on Halacha as well as Torah commentaries. He also wrote an abridged version of his father's work on the Talmud. |
