Moshe ben Chayim Alshich

Rabbi Moshe Alshich was born in 1508 in the Ottoman Empire. He wrote homiletical commentaries on the Torah and prophets which are still learnt till this day. He is one of the only Jewish leaders in history to have the word 'Hakadosh' added to his name.

Moving to Safed, Rabbi Alshich became the student of Rabbi Joseph Caro. His students included Rabbi Hayim Vital and Rabbi Yom Tov Tzahalon. Whilst part of the group of Safed kabbalists, he rarely refers to kabbalah in his works.

There is little known about his life. He passed away in 1593.
