Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev was born in 1740 and was the 26th generation of great rabbis in his family. Known as the Berditchever, he was an important Chassidic leader, who had a special love for the Jewish people. He was known as 'the defense attorney' of the Jewish people. He had a close relationship with Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Lidai, the first Rebbe of Chabad. Rabbi Levi Yitzchak passed away in 1809, having written the Kedushat Levi as well as many Chassidic folk songs. He is believed to be the founder of the Chassidic movement in central Poland.
