Dr David Roskies is a prolific author, editor and scholar. He was born in Montreal, Canada, where he attended secular Yiddish schools. Dr Roskies is a graduate of Brandeis University.
He has written 9 books and received many awards, as a cultural historian of Eastern European Jewry. With his focus on the Holocaust, Dr Roskies has had his book Night Words: A Midrash on the Holocaust translated to Hebrew, and in 1984, his book Against the Apocolypse:Responses to Catastrophes in Modern Jewish Culture, to both Hebrew and Russian. The same book won him the Ralph Waldo Emerson Prize from Phi Beta Kappa.
